Caravan Toilet Chemicals

Laundry soaker is as good if not better than those expensive commercial toilet chemicals. You will find lots of discussion about this on various internet forums, almost all positive.

Coles’ home brand Coles Ultra Booster is the favoured caravan toilet cassette chemical additive. The product data state it is phosphate free, biodegradable to Australian Standards 4351 and safe for septic tanks so will also be suitable for disposal at dump points.

The product contain sodium percarbonate (made up of hydrogen peroxide and sodium carbonate which acts as a sanitizer, deodoriser and descaler) and this breaks down to oxygen, water and sodium carbonate upon decomposition.

As with any chemical use caution as the Material Data Sheets indicate the ingredients can cause skin and eye irritation. Avoid inhaling the dust and medical treatment should be sought if swallowed.

Directions for mixing toilet additive:

Mix 2 heaped tablespoons of Cole’s Ultra Booster to 1 litre of cold* water and stir until dissolved. Pour into bottom holding tank (20ltr cassette). Note –  Coles own brand product works much better than the branded Napisan as it has a higher (34%) concentration of the active ingredient sodium percarbonate .*  Adding Ultra Booster to hot water may cause a effervescent overflow.
