Rocky Creek War Memorial

Rocky Creek War Memorial camping area is located adjacent to the Kennedy Highway 12km North of Atherton or 23km South of Mareeba. Rocky Creek has a large and relatively flat camping area and is suitable for all rigs.

The Rocky Creek camping area has clean toilets with wheelchair access.  There are non potable water taps provided in the area.  If you are a light sleeper you might like to consider parking towards the rear of the rest area as this will reduce road traffic noise exposure at night.

During World War II the Tableland area became the largest military base in Australia with camps at Tinaroo, Kairi, Atherton, Wongabel, Herberton, Wondecla, Ravenshoe and Garnet. Rocky Creek was the site of the largest military hospital in the Southern Hemisphere – a 3000 bed hospital which treated over 60,000 patients from 1943 to 1945.

For supplies, Tolga is located just 5km South of Rocky Creek. As you approach the town, potable water can be accessed on the left just after crossing the railway line.
