Savory Scones

Camp Oven Savoury SconesPrep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 – 15 minutes
Serves: 15 scones


  • 4 cups self-raising flour
  • 1 grated carrot
  • 1 grated onion
  • 2 eggs
  • 125gm grated cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped bacon
  • pinch of salt & pepper
  • milk


  1. Mix ingredients with enough milk to form scone dough.
  2. Turn out onto floured board, knead lightly and press out to a 2.5cm thickness.
  3. Cut out the scones with a cutter (or glass dipped in flour), place on a floured trivet/tray.
  4. Cook in a hot camp oven until cooked, approx 10 to 15 minutes. To check if ready, poke scones with a knife.

Hint: Use a rack in the bottom of the camp oven.  You don’t need much heat to cook the scones. Also, place a small amount of coals on top of the lid.
