Wuruma Dam is popular weekend spot for the locals with fishing, skiing, canoeing and sailing being the main attractions. It is also very popular with the grey nomads so it can get very busy during peak times. There are several areas to camp so if the prime areas are full it may mean parking away from the waters edge for a day or two and then relocate to a prime waterfront position when one comes available.
Facilities include rubbish bins, flushing toilets, picnic tables and shelters.
The dam is stocked with Silver and Golden Perch, Barramundi and Bass so a fishing licence is required. Inspectors do visit here. If chasing Redclaw, no licence is required and a max of 4 traps allowed per adult – No bag limit applies.
Closest shopping is at Monto or Eidsvold towns which are about 40klms away so stock up first. Jamie (a Monto local) may still be doing supply runs every second day bringing bread, milk, water etc for a small charge. Phone and internet coverage is very limited. You can get coverage up near the toilet block or at the end of the dirt entrance road (known as “the Office”)
